Courage Barda (b. 2003) is a video artist and composer working within the expanded multimedia field. He centers his work on his disabled body and places it in disabling environments. Guided by a principle of radical honesty, he presents his personal experiences unaltered. Through nakedness, extended vocal techniques, and the combination of human and non-human qualities, he explores abjection in his work. His multimedia compositions blend sound, movement, and video. An equally active choral composer, Barda’s works have been performed by the Young New Yorkers’ Chorus, the Choral Arts Initiative, the Phoenix Boys Choir, Capital Hearings, and NOTUS. He is pursuing bachelor’s degrees in composition and historical performance (voice) at Indiana University–Bloomington.
